Both men froze. Their faces flushed with embarrassment, and they exchanged awkward glances before instinctively turning to Julian, who stood a few feet away, smoking quietly, his expression unreadable.
Julian lifted his eyes and met Autumn's gaze. His lips pressed into a thin line, but he said nothing. Not a word of defense, not a single syllable of solidarity.
Ryan quickly shifted into damage-control mode, plastering on a smile. "You misunderstood, Autumn. We really weren't talking about you like that."
Grant nodded frantically. "Exactly, Autumn. We had a bit too much to drink, just came out for a smoke. We'll head back in soon."
They had only stepped out to satisfy their craving, never expecting Autumn to catch them mid-gossip. Especially not when the smoking area was such a distance from the restroom – she had clearly taken a detour on purpose. She was so calculating.
