# Chapter 33: The Uninvited Savior
The door slammed open with a force that made everyone in the room freeze.
Standing there, silhouetted against the harsh hallway light, was a figure Nicole knew all too well. That handsome face, that tall and upright frame—it was the man she had been infatuated with for three long, painful years.
Eric Ferguson.
For a split second, Nicole's heart stuttered. But she was no longer the lovesick woman who would have melted at the sight of him. She quickly regained her composure, her mind racing. *Why is he here? It must be a coincidence.*
She wasn't naive enough to believe Eric had been tracking her movements, waiting to swoop in like some knight in shining armor. That fantasy had died long ago.
"Mr. Ferguson?" Mr. Zeller scrambled to his feet, his face draining of all color as he trembled like a leaf in a storm.
Eric's gaze was murderous, his eyes fixed on Flint Zeller with a cold fury that could freeze hell itself. "Do you have a death wish? I can grant your wish!"
An inexplicable rage surged through Eric's chest. The thought of what this scumbag had tried to do to Nicole—the woman who had once been his wife—ignited a fire he couldn't control.
But before Eric could take a step forward to teach Flint a lesson, another figure shot past him like a bullet.
The newcomer's fist connected with Flint's face the moment the man tried to stand. A flurry of punches followed, merciless and precise, targeting every inch of Flint's body without discrimination.
"Ian!" Nicole shouted, her voice cutting through the chaos.
The man paused mid-swing and turned around. His cold, predatory eyes instantly softened when they landed on Nicole. "I went to your office to look for you. They told me you were here, so I purposely came over to surprise you."
Ian Carter acted as if the brutal beating he had just delivered was nothing more than a casual greeting. He completely ignored Eric's presence, walking past him as if he didn't exist. From the door, he picked up a bouquet he had left there and handed it to Nicole with a warm smile.
"Do you like it?"
Nicole let out a helpless sigh. Her plans had been disrupted, but she had achieved what she came for—more or less. It wasn't a total failure.
"Thank you, but forget about him. If you keep hitting him, he might die... I don't want to get into trouble."
"As you wish, my queen." Ian grinned, his charm undeniable. "Then I'll spare his worthless life."
Flint Zeller stared at the two men before him in sheer terror. One was Second Young Master Carter, and the other was Eric Ferguson. He couldn't afford to cross either of them. *Didn't everyone say Nicole was abandoned by Eric Ferguson? Why is he still meddling in her affairs?*
Hearing that his life would be spared, Flint ignored the dizziness and the pain, crawling desperately toward the door. He just wanted to escape—far away from these two dangerous men.
But before he could drag himself out of the room, something hard struck his head and clattered to the floor in front of him.
The Audi keys.
Ian sneered coldly. "Take this away! Don't taint my girlfriend's eyes."
"Yes, yes, yes!" Flint scrambled out, clutching the keys like a lifeline.
Nicole was rendered speechless. "Watch it..." She shot Ian a look. *What girlfriend?*
She couldn't help but glance at Eric, whose cold, penetrating gaze was fixed on her. A strange feeling settled in her chest.
"Mr. Ferguson, why are you here?"
"Yes, I'm also curious. Why are you here, Mr. Ferguson?" Ian's eyes narrowed with obvious scrutiny. Then he turned to Nicole, his tone shifting. "Nicole, didn't you know there was a problem with the wine? Why are you attending all kinds of dinner parties? Is this the life you want?"
The mockery in Eric's words was impossible to miss. *She accompanied others to dinner. She was drugged without knowing it. Is this the life she wants after our divorce?*
The rage in his chest exploded at that moment, uncontrollable and consuming.
Nicole lowered her head and let out a bitter laugh. *I really made a fool of myself to think he'd be kind enough to help me. Turns out he just wants an excuse to teach me a lesson.*
She lifted her head, her bright, delicately made-up eyes now carrying a hidden sharpness that cut deeper than any blade.
Under Eric's shocked gaze, Nicole picked up the glass of wine on the table and downed it in one gulp. She set the glass down with a deliberate clink, hooked her lips into a defiant smile, and stood up.
"Thank you for your help, Mr. Ferguson. But I've already replaced the wine beforehand." Her voice was ice. "You no longer have the right to comment on what I want to do with my life."
*Who was he to lecture her?*
As Nicole turned to leave, Eric's hand shot out and grabbed her arm. His gaze was cold, dark, and unyielding. "What do you mean? You didn't answer my question."
Nicole smirked, her expression hardening as she faced him directly. "I didn't say it so explicitly as a courtesy to you, Mr. Ferguson. I came here for work—which is certainly better than being a lowly servant to your family in the past." Her words were like poisoned daggers, each one aimed at his pride. "Speaking of which, is there even a difference between your family and Flint Zeller?"
The room fell into a deafening silence.
Eric's grip on her arm tightened, his jaw clenched so hard it could crack granite. But Nicole didn't flinch. She met his gaze, unyielding, unbowed.
She was no longer the woman who would bow her head to him.
Those days were over.

## Reader's Impressions & Star Rating
This chapter was an emotional rollercoaster, and I am *living* for Nicole's transformation! Watching her stand up to Eric Ferguson, the man who once held her heart captive, was nothing short of cathartic. The way she called him out—comparing his family to Flint Zeller—was a brutal, beautiful mic drop moment. Eric's sudden appearance felt less like concern and more like possessive fury, and Nicole saw right through it. Ian Carter, on the other hand, continues to be a refreshing presence—loyal, playful, and ready to throw hands for her without hesitation.
The highlight for me was Nicole's unwavering defiance. She is no longer the woman who would silently endure. She is sharp, she is fierce, and she is *done* being anyone's doormat. Eric's confusion and rage are deliciously satisfying to witness.

## Next Chapter Prediction
Now that Nicole has openly thrown Eric's hypocrisy in his face, the tension between them is bound to explode. Eric won't take her words lying down—especially not with Ian Carter standing by her side. I predict Eric will try to reassert control, possibly by digging into Nicole's current dealings or attempting to sabotage Ian's relationship with her. Meanwhile, Nicole's investigation into Flint Zeller's wine scheme is far from over, and with Ian backing her, she might uncover something that implicates bigger players. The battle lines are drawn, and Nicole is ready for war.
